We only turn it off at night so as to not have it kick on for any reason and wake us up. So long as the pressure shutoff switch is working there is no downside to leaving it on except during subfreezing weather. In very cold weather I have had the water inside the pump freeze and would use it manually (switching it on and if still frozen immediately shutting it back off).
In theory the freezing would be less likely if I let the water trickle into the sink during the night but then the pump would be kicking on and off repeatedly.
