It sounds to me like the receiver on the MB is not designed to be used with a WD hitch. It is most likely a dead weight carrying hitch and should not be used with weight distribution. Probably will need an aftermarket receiver installed - if someone makes one for that vehicle.
A receiver that is designed to be used with WD usually has a stouter profile and has attachment points on the tow vehicle that extend forward towards the front of the vehicle on both sides of the frame. This allows it to handle the twisting forces that a WD hitch imposes on the receiver and transfers the weight forward.
A receiver that is not designed for WD use is usually attached at the center of the tow vehicle and does not extend very far outwards. It usually does not have much, if any, extension forward either.
