Wedgewood Vision Stove Smoking Issue

Greetings,

My stove has a metal probe with a wire connected (I assume it might be the thermocouple/temp sensor) near the pilot light. When I heat the stove the metal piece smokes badly. I don't know if the piece can be replaced or why it would do this in the first place. Any Ideas?

Thanks
  • I did see your trailer is older. sounds like it just burnt out. I would replace it. BTW, I don`t think they were intended to be used in the manner you described. It`s a stove designed to be used at most a few hours.

    Good luck!
  • It had been working fine for a very long time. Nothing to do with food splatter or whatnot. I left the stove on the minimal temp 170 deg during a deep freeze for a couple days while I was away.

Got back and the piece was emitting a harsh smoke. The probe piece near the pilot light was touching the bracket. I've pushed it back between the brackets so it's not touching and relit, the whole piece gets redhot but doesn't seem to be smoking. I will see if I can find the whole piece online for sale as its part of the pilot light and requires a disconnect of the gasline. I'd still like to know why coz it was emitting an acidy toxic fume smoke. Thanks
  • by any chance ,did someone(previous owner)maybe paint the thermocouple cause it looked rusty and they thought it would look "new" for resale...or did they coat it with grease??
  • Thermocouple which probably has food spatter/drips crusted on it......

You can try cleaning it off....use some emery cloth to scrub/wipe it off with.

    If it continues to smoke.....replace
  • Less than ten dollars, and maybe 30 minutes worth of your time. Replace it.
  • I suspect it is the thermocouple, but do not know why it would smoke. I would replace it. They are not that expensive, at least one's for the home heating.
