weep holes

Is it ok to plug the weep holes on the windows? My wife thinks that is where all the bugs are coming in.

Thanks.
  • Any water that manages to get past the exterior seals on the window is directed back out through the weep holes, so no, don't seal them up. I doubt that there is any way for the bugs to get in that way, but if you want to look very closely for gaps on the interior of the windows and carefully seal them that may help. For the sliding windows take a close look at the condition of the weather stripping where the two windows overlap to verify it's in good condition.
  • Don't know about keeping the bugs out, but I tape mine up when I know there is going to be a dust storm while staying in AZ and CA. It's amazing how much dust can get blown in thru such small openings.
  • Thank you very much for your comments. I appreciate them very much.
  • Maybe option would be use tape or something easily removed to cover the holes.
See if it makes a difference on the bug intrusion.

It's probably not where they are getting in but, it will make your DW happy, and that's the important thing. :)

X2 on making the DW happy. I learned a long time ago that if mom ain't happy, nobody is happy.

As far as where the bug might be coming from have you checked the stove vent fan opening? Just a thought. JMO
  • Bugs are finding easier routes into your TT than the weep holes. Get some traps for ants and roaches and put them under the sinks.
  • Can you dab a little insect spray into the weep holes to minimize that risk?
  • You can keep the doors closed at all times and crawl in thru a window. Won't do anything but tell you where the bugs are coming in. We have sugar ants and they will come up the cord, water line, drain hose tires and jack. Buggers to get rid of too. Tell my wife they are part of nature and she doesn't complain.
