Weep Hole Covers

We went to my parents down in Western Kentucky over the weekend and just got back yesterday. While there, we had a storm hit us that was like none other (for us) in our about 12 years of camping. It consisted of 60~70mph horizontal winds with sheets of rain which happened to hit our coach broadside (drivers side). The water from the rain was pouring in the closed windows on that side which we were able to catch and contain as it happened.

After the storm I started thinking about the weep holes and if they were covered perhaps we would have had better control over the rain entering. I would like to know others thoughts on this and to hear from those that have weep hole covers.

This thing may never happen again to us but it sure got me thinking!

Weep hole covers don't help the window frames to drain any better or faster. They simply stop whistling while going down the road. In your case it sounds like it was raining too fast for the weep holes to drain. A bit like too much rain overflowing a gutter. Not much to do about that.

    A good analogy Effy! Thanks!
  • Make sure the weep holes are not clogged with trash/dirt so they drain as much as possible.
  • We bought a used RV that the owner replaced a window upside down (weep holes on the top). Needless to say, I had to turn the window around, weep holes down, and repair a waterlogged inside wall. Without weep holes, water build up in the frame will overflow and possibly migrate to the interior of the RV. Never had a problem after I changed the window.

    they are definitely clear! Thanks!!
  • The windows aren't designed to withstand too many 70 mph horizontal rain "showers"....weep hole covers wouldn't have helped....Dennis
  • I put black electrical tape over our front window weep holes to stop the whistling road noise. Can peel it off in a few seconds if needed when it rains.

I did that once. Got caught in a downpour on Interstate 95, water rolling in and around the window because the weep holes were covered. Had to find a place to pull over, get out, got soaked trying to pull the tape off and had to dry up a lot of water on the inside. I'll never do that again. As soon as I got home I ordered real weep hole covers. Weep holes are there for a reason. Don't tape them. You are asking for trouble.
  • I duct taped very small flutes to the weep holes on either side of my RV. If I drive into the wind at just the right angle I can play Chopsticks.

Ok for some reason I just had a flash of a memory about a commercial I saw some years ago about Zamfir and his pan flute.
