Weighed in again today 3/4 ton Chevy and 32 foot Passport

2002 Silverado 2500HD 6.0 4L80E
2012 Passport 3220 BHWE

I got one good photo, the others were blurry. :(

Trailer axles on the scale. Loaded for 5 days of camping full water tank and propane. Grey and black water empty.

In the truck I had 4 bikes, 20ish pieces of wood. The wife, 2 kids and me.

Truck on the Scale was 7560 with trailer.
Front axle was 3250
Rear axle was 4440

Truck normally weighs 6100lbs with me and a full tank of gas.

Thanks for the feedback. I've looked into smaller fifth wheels also but I really don't want to give up the bed for carrying all the stuff that one needs to bring along when camping with four women.

Maybe not the one in the pic, but most modern 5ers have so much more storage they more than make up for the truck bed. And you really don't loose all of your bed when you go to a 5er. I still put plenty of things in mine, just have to make sure they wont blow out. After recently going to a 5er I don't think I could ever go back to a bumper pull.
  • Nice combo. Love the cc 8ft bed in 2500 or 3500 variety.

My sub has all your guts as well, and 2 daughters. Ex -wife is goners! Banished to seedy hotels and crotch rot.
  • I need a lot of things living with four women... :B

I love having the bed. You really need the space with 4 women! Good Luck!

I'm curious about how you find the length. I've got a short bed which will help, but I've been shopping trailers and my wife really likes the quad bunk models that tend to run 30'+ in length, which is a little longer than I was thinking about getting originally. I'm not worried about it going down the highway, but more about getting it in and out of tight camping spots or down forest service roads.

Really I have not had a problem yet. I find it easier to maneuver than my old 5th wheel, and I get it just about everywhere we want to go. I do check before I head out to see where the bigger gas stations are but that is about it. With the Diesel fills up are not as big of a concern.

I have had the 32 foot Passport 26 miles down the Forest service roads in the Gifford Pinchot wilderness of Washington. No problems.

This was my old setup. To be honest with the long wheel base and good hitch it tows just as nice, well to me at least.
  • LOL!
I have had this set up 4 years. I never really have to go above 4000 RPM (Max HP/Torque is 4400 RPM). Towed up Highway 30 today in Oregon. No issues. 65ish all the way home on I-5. My only issue is the MPG and it really isn't an issue. I would not camp if I were worried about MPG. Really I don't need a diesel for a 7500lbs trailer. Maybe when I retire, but this is a dedicated tow vehicle.

I will say with E-2 hitch and long wheel base truck. It is rare occurrence to get any type of sway or porposing. Truck towed a small 5th wheel before this. Has never missed a beat. It is paid for and does exactly what I ask it to do, take the Family and I camping.

  • Before somebody criticizes you for not getting a diesel, I have one question, "How did it tow?"
