PARTS are MORE then the SUM.........
You can NOT load up so weight is placed equally across both axles.
GVWR is MORE then JUST axle ratings...it includes FRAME, SUSPENSION and TIRES
My 3500
FAWR----5200#
RAWR----6200#
BUT....GVWR is 10100# (not 11,400 sum of axles)
How would you get the rear axle to 6200lbs and your front axle down to 3900lbs to maintain 10100lbs?
Before you holler not SAFE! - I agree!
so what is the point of this rating system used by OEM's?
LOL!
Our 2001 Ram 2500 has a GVWR of 8,800#
Front axle 5,200#
Rear axle 6,084#
Total of axles 11,284
That said the truck uses the optional 265/75-16 E rated tires 3,415# each.
So not changing the front axle as likely limited by ball joints.
Now the rear could be rated at 6,830# the axle is the same Dana 80 in the 3500.
Now
Front axle 5,200
Rear axle 6,830#
Total 12,030#
