WH on elc or gas????

We are seasonal, and pay for the electric we use... What do you think will cost less...120v or gas??

The WH will always be on when we are there, but will be turned off when we leave for the week.

So what would you use????

  • When we were seasonal we only had gas but we had a 275 gallon tank. If you just have standard tanks then I would use electric.
  • I realize it depends on the rates of each and they are different in all areas. I guess I should have just asked what everyone's preference is.. Thanks for your ideas.

I like the heat the water up in the AM and then again in the evening. That might work....
  • If I am running an electric heater or A/C I use propane. Otherwise electric.
  • Nobody can say for certain. Generally gas is a more efficient heater, but electric rates vary greatly depending on location. Gas varies as well, but I don't think so much as electric.

Many seasonal sites have a propane delivery truck that comes around and does refills.
  • Sometime back that was discussed in detail and, as I remember, there was more heat energy in $1.00 worth of electricity than there was in $1.00 in propane. Also, one never has to haul an electric bottle anywhere to get it filled up.
  • We use the electric feature, and only leave it on for a few Hrs in the AM, and a few Hrs in the pm. The water stays pretty hot throughout the day. If we want it hot quick, We use both features.
