What are the chances...?

On our way home from a recent trip, I stopped to fuel up and... the pump on the opposite side of the island didn't shut off automatically when the guys tank was full. Out pumped about 4-5 gals. of gas all over the place before I saw it and turned it off. Now I've got all this gas running straight at my vehicle. I had already taken my TL Fastgun off and placed it on my bed rail. In my haste to get the h... out of there, I forgot about my fastgun. Today as I get ready to unload I noticed that it was missing. Well the Fastgun gods must have been watching over me because I had a 50% chance that it would end up falling into the bed or a 50% chance of it falling onto the road. LUCKY me, it was in the truck bed! :) I didn't have a in-trip checklist or a quick exit strategy list before this, but I do now, for now on I'll place it on drivers floor.

    You have to drill on your brand new $60,000 truck to install tiedowns?

    Not with Torklifts.

    And not all Torklift installs cover the fuel cap. Mine doesn't.

    I had HJ,s on my 08" F-350 / Lance set-up and they required the use of 2 wrenches and 10x the time that my HJ's do. All's well that end's well.

    OP, you must be the yin to my yang. I would have had 100% chance of it falling out. Glad it worked out for you.

    I once placed my wallet on the back bumper when loading groceries.
    Jumped in truck and drove home. Went to unload groceries and 'found' my wallet still sitting on bumper. Took GF out to dinner to ce celebrate
    OB you must've had a lot of money in that wallet to weigh it down... lucky you! the other guy, on the phone where else.

    Once in the cold north of a November morning at Desolation Bay of Kluane Lake in Yukon Territory on the Alaskan Highway, I drove off after -33 degrees woke us up in the middle of the night and caused me to think perhaps a 20 lb LPG canister swap was in order for the camper. It wasn't. Of course in my frozen stupor I left the "empty" on the 20' enclosed cargo trailer tongue platform and would secure it before departure right? About five miles down the snow packed and relatively bumpy road I remembered and pulled over to check. There it was, still sitting on the tongue platform fat, dumb and happy.

    Gad to hear your Fast Gun was in the bed.

    I once placed my wallet on the back bumper when loading groceries.

    I just lay it down on the ground and leave the lower end attached to the camper. It would be awfully hard to drive off with half still attached.

    Instead of removing it, couldn't you release the bottom and just let it hang?


    My 09 Chevy dually's fuel door is blocked by the forward tiedown. I always just release my fastgun and let it hang.
    I actually never even considered pulling it completely off. Having it hang free, there's full access to the fuel door, but that may not be the case with other brands of trucks.
