Some of the states have a personal property tax on vehicles PLUS the annual registration fee. And some states do not have a separate personal property tax, but instead the only annual assessment on a vehicle is the annual registration fee, in which case the registration fee may be higher.
Without knowing if the states' registration fees quoted are the ONLY assessment on the vehicle, or if there is ALSO an annual personal property tax assessed on the vehicle and that $ amount -- then for comparative purposes, the figures quoted are meaningless.
