What brand oil do you use?

Mobil Delvac 15w-50 & a Fleetgard Stratopore filter is what I use. No problems in the last 10 years.

I have posted this before but it is worth reposting for those who care.

As you can see there is not a bad oil in the bunch, pick your poison. The NAPA oil should be very similar or exactly the same as Valvoline Blue. The Lucas oil has an advisory but it is because the 15w-40 tests as a 10w-40. NBD but not within labeling standards.

Before anyone starts bagging on base numbers, I think that it is to hard to categorize an oil by its starting TBN.

Here I have an oil with a starting TBN of 9.09 and after 9500 miles it only dropped to 5.75



If it was not for the damn fuel dilution I think this could have been a 20k oil. At least 15k. I am switching to dino FWIW.

Can you show the test results? If you are comparing to the full synthetic I doubt what you are saying.

Chevron made a CI-4 Delo 400 which was highly rated but its current CJ-4 rated Delo 400 LE is one of the lowest rated diesel motor oils you can buy and sells for 30% more than a number of top rated oils like Cummins/Valvoline Premium Blue and Pennsoil Long Life. Both these oils have tested higher than Amnsoil which cost 2-3 times as much.

Where do you come up with this stuff? :R

Rotella, Delo, and Supertech; you can throw a blanket over all three they are so close in performance and makeup.

I haven't personally seen the makeup of Premium Blue but I suspect it's also close in makeup and performance.

Delo is good oil. wintersun doesn't know what he is talking about. Check the test results

A point overlooked is the buildup of sludge and soot with diesel engines and the only way to insure its removal is to change the oil and the filter. Fleet operators have chosen to not extend change intervals and rely on lab testing as a whole and I can see why. By the time you get a negative lab result the damage has been done.

Do you have a link to the testing that shows the Delo as one of the lowest rated? What criteria are they using for the rating system?

I cannot even find Pennzoil long life on their website and the Pennzoil selector recommends Rotella. Do you have a link to the long life product page? BTW Delo, Rotella and Blue are all pretty much the same price around my area.

EDIT: Looks like Pennzoil LL was dicontined/renamed in 2010 Shell Consolidates Heavy Duty Engine Oils So I don't even see how it is relevant.

;) You got it.;) It's also about half the cost of just plain ole Rotella T.

Castrol GTX here because it's cheap at Wally World and meets mfg spec. 5 gal jug plus 3 quarts. I'll use any major brand of oil that meets mfg spec.
