What can you tow with a 2010 Dodge Ram Hemi

My friend has recently upgraded her TV from a 2000 S-10 Jimmy to a 2010 Ram 1500 Hemi, with an extended cab and a 6 foot box .
When towing her Coleman popup( weight 2200lb) The jimmy had to work at it. The Ram handles the pop up with no issues.
Now she has decided to upgrade her camper to either a 5th wheel, or a TT. She asked me to look into her weight rating and I've asked her for her vin, but keep forgetting to get it.
Does anyone (I'm sure there must be)who tows either type with a Dodge Ram 1500 pass along what you tow or what weight limitations she needs to limit herself to.
If you performed any modifications to enhance towing that info would be helpful too.
Thanks to all
from myself and her.

NEVER ask a woman her weight rating... it will not end well.
  • I just went through this exercise but with a 3/4 ton dodge. Very few 1/2 ton pickups can handle a 5th wheel "pin weight"....."rolling" weight might be no problem...But the pin weight in the trucks bed will usually overload a 1/2 ton...once you factor in passengers and other weight in the truck.

Bumper pull is the way to go with a 1/2 ton in my experience.

A light weight BP might not need a weight distributing hitch. Depends on the tongue weight of the trailer.

Just my opinions....Sure lots of folks will chime in that they are towing all kinds of 5th wheel trailers with a 1/2 ton......Be Safe!
  • Payload. Read some of the many topics on here dealing with payload. In the grand scheme of things, not much else matters. If you are within your payload ratings, you will be within your tow ratings.

Lots and lots of good posts already exist explaining what you need to know.

E rated tires will provide a more firm feel, a good weight distribution hitch is likely needed. Air bags can help firm up a soft feeling suspension.
