I have to ask this...how can my Dodge Ram 1500 Laramie with the 5.7 HEMI, and trailer tow package with the 3.92 axle have a cargo weight of only 1,100 lbs? This is the lowest I have read of any vehicle on this forum! What happened to my truck at the factory? I don't have any other add ons than any other truck out there....
Didn't you check the lot before ordering?? I did and seen that every Ram 1500
CREW CAB, 4WD truck on the lot only had 1100 - 1200 lbs of payload, less than my midsize 2008 Ford Sport Trac V8 with 1288 lbs. Yes it was crew cab and 4WD.
Since none of the Ram 1500s had the payload to tow my trailer and haul my family at the same time, I drove right to the Ford dealership which was 2 doors down. Next store was a Chevy dealer I drove past. :).
Everything on the Ford lot was between 1400 lbs and 1500 lbs so I did a dealer trade and got my 2010 with 1430 lbs of payload. Since then, Ford raised their GVWR (and payload) on the V8s by 150 lbs, from 7200 lbs GVWR to 7350 lbs. My 2012 truck is only 2 lbs less than my 2010 but now I have 1582 lbs payload and my truck is pretty loaded.
I was disappointed in Ram not having more payload than a car or even a small crossover. I guess people don't use them as trucks and more like cars, which explains their move to a car suspension. If they would had a high payload, I may had been driving one, a shame.
Then again you can get a 5.7L 2500 which has equalivant payload and weight to a F150 Heavy Duty Suspension truck or get a 1000 more pounds in payload by getting a 2500 with the 6.4L.
Right now I need both a truck and commuter so a 3/4 ton truck was out of the question.
I can only recommend buying a trailer that's small enough not to overload your GVWR.
Good luck.
