- wanderingbobExplorer III am the O.P.
As I pull many different trailers I have a WD system , but a lot of my jobs are spotting smaller cargo trailers with 2 inch balls . My 2 inch rattles like heck . I got one of dem thangs but I ain't tried yet ! - myredracerExplorer IIIs the OP talking about rattle if he had say a bike carrier in a receiver or removing excessive play between receiver and WDH shank? There are many anti-rattle devices on the market. Just google "hitch rattle" or hitch "anti-rattle". They range from a simple U-bolt design to overkill like in photo.
The anti-rattle devices won't help a WDH much, if at all. Does make it somewhat harder for someone to steal your shank/hitch head tho. and in some jurisdictions it's illegal to keep the hitch head on. But if it's bolted in place, it isn't illegal (like in BC).
To remove play between a receiver and shank, have heard of welding a couple of nuts on the side of the receiver tube and using bolts in them to tighten against the shank. Some shanks apparently cause more play and I think Reese is one of them, which is what we have and may look at doing this one day. - TvovExplorer IIActually, I was assuming this was about a hitch when it was not hooked up to a trailer.
- HuntindogExplorerI have the ultimate trump.
I emailed Hitch Rider, the manufacturer/distributor of the hitch vise:
Hi,
The Hitch-Vise is not designed for use on a weight-distributing hitch.
Thanks.

So trumping only works your way? What about my, and many others experiences that seem to "trump" yours? You do seem to be in the minority in your self rightousness.Huntindog wrote:

My thoughts as well.
A properly sized and adjusted weight distribution hitch can't rattle so there has to be more to the OP's story as to why he's interested in an "anti rattle" product like this. :W
Perhaps he doesn't use a WD system, and knows that would be frowned on here... So he is leaving that part out. Or perhaps it is not for TT towing use (not sure why he would post that in a TT forum though) rather a utility trailer or something that doesn't require WD.
At any rate, such devices are not needed or even realistically possible when using WD.
They are just a solution in search of a problem.
Well my almost 10 years positive experience using the "Hitch Vise" IMO trumphs you're arm chair opinions. It's not so much about the rattle, but the slop that you can feel even with a WDH when initially starting from a stop or when in city stop and go traffic and it makes the trailer "wiggle" less due to any side to side movement of the drawbar during normal tow conditions. Finally, by taking all movement out of the drawbar in the receiver you reduce any tendency for the hitch pin to "wallow" out the hole in the receiver.
All this talk about the weight of the WDH should prevent any issues fails to appreciate the fact that the 1K or so TW is peanuts when a 4T TV is trying to move an 4T trailer via the slop between the drawbar and the receiver.

But this is sort of normal from reading your posts on other subjects. - SoundGuyExplorer

Correctly spelled it would be "trumps" (eewww, hate that word :W ) ... nonetheless, I guess my nearly 20 yrs of towing without a Hitch Vice and without any rattles would TRUMP your 10 yrs, eh? :W Geez, I crack me up. :p - LarryJMExplorer II

Larry - HannibalExplorerMy hitch doesn't rattle either. Even before when I used no WD or sway control it didn't rattle. I heard some clunking for a while that I thought was my 5th wheel hitch in the bed but it turned out to be cab mounts dried out and crumbled away. Once I replaced those, rattle (clunking) was gone.
