- 45RicochetExplorerOur son bought a new 2008 F250 which lost the radiator 2 times before dropping the 8 hole. If your a true Blue Ford guy, look at the 2011- 6.7 PSD. If your not a Ford guy look around as you might have better options without mentioning names :B
- Engineer9860ExplorerI drive an '08 6.4L PSD at work. It will roll over 200,000mi later this week.
At 120,000 miles the EGR cooler failed taking out the entire engine. Almost $16,000.00 to repair.
Don't remember the mileage but the front cover failed on the first engine filling the crankcase with coolant.
If you buy the '09 make sure it has had the Y pipe fitting installed in the cooling system, and had the thermostats replaced. If not it will blow radiators about every 15,000 miles. After getting the t-stats replaced ours never blew another radiator. The one that is in it right now is the 4th one. - Lawdawg21ExplorerI have one. Reliable so far with 50,000 miles. Doesn't like to pass a fuel station if you have a lead foot

Never owned one. I was looking at buying one in 2010. Did some digging and discovered it wasn't the one to buy. Everybody I have talked to said they get terrible mileage among other things. For a few bucks more you can get a 2010 with a 6.7 and a much better reputation...that is if you MUST have a Ford.
What is the general view of this engine? I know some of the Ford Diesels weren't so good dependability wise!
