based on results of blackstone oil analysis done on my 3 vehicles, all of them could go 20K or close to it between changes. at 7500-10000 miles TBN was still high, wear particles nil, etc. and the recomendation was I could extend change intervals if desired. On the car it gets around 7500/year, mostly in town stop and go, truck get 15K/year about 1/2 towing, 1/2 highway.
And many cars sold in europe have longer change intervals than the same car in the U.S.
IMHO the biggest thing stopping longer drain intervals is the jiffy lube and oil companies still spouting the 3k/3month change interval is what you REALLY need to keep the car running.
The next is that 10K or so is about 1 year for most people, 25K would be closer to two years driving which is probably long enough that people would completely forget how long ago they changed oil.
