Some engines have small passages that can become clogged with contaminated oil and lead to a early demise while others might not be susceptible. Makes a difference as to use as well, 10k highway miles is a lot different then 10k short trips where the condensation does not get released. For myself changing the oil and filter every 5k is cheap insurance.
