That is the way I have thought of it.
I remember my dad buying a factory extended Dodge van that was what Dodge said was a Heavy Duty 1/2 ton but 3/4 ton rated. They told him if it had the full floating rear axle, it would have been a 3/4 ton.
I think the OP's question could be ask about the 150, 250, 350 or the 1500, 2500, 3500. Why only one zero on the Fords and two zeros on the others?
