I added a locking door over it all.
Now I have never seen that. Had many rv's incl 3 campers. All had the standard locking door with the fill and vent openings behind the lockable door. Can't imagine a water tank vent open on the side of a camper.
Mines the same way, but I don't see it as dumb or a problem, it's just real convenient to get to & fill.
