Butyl tape can be found in roll form at most rv supply stores or can be found online. It is very inexpensive. If the unit is new, you could probably reuse the existing if it is still pliable. Before reinstalling the removed screws, I recommend coating them first with an rv grade eurethane caulk (lap sealant) such as Dicor or Proflex. This will help ensure that water doesn't penetrate into the screw seats.
When removing and reinstalling any screws on the exterior I always coat or fill the screw holes with caulk before reinstalling the screws.
It is crucial with the molding strip you described that it is watertight.
