We have the Q1200 with thermometer and we often do a flat bread pizza with dough balls from our local bakery. It can get really hot, enough to sear but you lose the temps fast when opening it. You can also use foil like a gasket to create smaller vents at the sides. I removed the regulator from the grill and installed a 1/4" cross (replacing the tee after the regulator in our camper) with a ball valve and had a 12' long hose made with conventional female ends (not quick coupler)to plumb direct to our 30# tanks. No more small bottles, quick to set up and portable enough to be under the awning or behind the camper.
It can be messy with the drip pan but it stores easily in the basement.

How are any of these grills at searing, though? My experience with similar grills is that they're pretty anemic.

To sear properly you need something that gets ripping hot, and those $20 grills just can't. If all you're doing is warming up some hot dogs that's one thing, but slow cooking burgers or a steak on a grill, you end up with a dry piece of gray shoe leather...

I have a Weber Q2000 and it's barely adequate in the searing department even with a 20lb propane tank.

This is the one that we have. It is small however it is perfect for the two of us and fits into the basement of our Northern Lite Camper.

Volcano 3. Portable and 3 fuel grill (propane, charcoal, wood chips).

Works on the boat rail, on a table with a tripod, and thinking of ways to mount on a camper jack. Canvas bag for storage keeps other gear clean.

Have used my Weber Q100 for YEARS. Store it in the rear of my truck when pulling my 5er. Use adaptable 20# tank.

Thanks for all of the great input! I opted to try a small Coleman Fold N Go for an upcoming trip where we will be only staying for a day or two in each location during our travels. Since it will only be the two of us I think it will be big enough to cook for us, and easy to setup and store. In the spring I might look at a little larger grill for those trips when we will be cooking for more than just two people.

After downsizing to a 20’ C (about same size as a truck camper) we got a Coleman fold-n-go with a skillet attachment, cooks great for two
