Used to be that 3 ton Harbor Freight Stands were good for 1.5 tons each for a total of 3 for the set.

Max safety, oak cribbing blocks. They never fail. My Dad refused to use jack stands, of course he worked mostly on dump trucks. I worked on aircraft carriers for a while, they put those up on cribbing blocks in dry dock. Kinda weird walking around below the carrier.

I use jack stands, but as an engineer, a flaw in the notch or the dog could have a sudden catastrophic failure. Not a lot of metal there. I never get under a vehicle on jack stands. If they fail it is only property damage.

I have a collection or fall off pcs from Glu Lams over the years in Construction. I always backup my US Made NAPA stands. If the GL's are not practical I also use my US Made NAPA floor jack as a backup.

See HF jackstabds on forsale sites and garage sales all the time...wonder if they are on the recall list.

My HF stands are like John's orange ones in his post.

Did purchase a couple of 2 & 4 ton stands with steel rods that is poked into the gears in addition to the pawl

For most service work a pair of ramps is pretty handy. On wife's little car I use ramps so I don't need to bend over as far.

Nice post JB! My HF specials are old nuff that that are not part of the recall. On old RV, I borrowed stands from work as we are a semi shop to hold up the RV while I had wheels off. Now I do 1 of 2 things for RV depending on what it is I'm doing. A) either just use the rear landing legs to lift it. B). Lift w/ rear legs then either use borrowed HD stands or block it w/ wood under frame.

Guess my alum bodied 350 DRW still has some feel parts in it cuz compared to others, it's a heavyweight at 9300# full of fuel, hitch and fireweood.
