The current Dodge ad is very misleading. Listening to it, one would get the impression the Dodge brothers were on the Ford payroll and then quit to form their own company.
Not true. The Dodge brothers had their own company which supplied components to many of the other car manufacturers in Detroit. All the Dodge brothers did was stop supplying components to the other manufacturers, including Ford, and began producing their own complete automobiles.ROBERTSUNRUS wrote:

Yes and no John Dodge was Fords Vice President. Here some reading.
"Fearing their total dependence on one customer, particularly because it was Ford, the Dodges gave Ford the required year's notice that they would terminate their contract effective August 1914. John Dodge simultaneously resigned as director and vice president of the Ford Motor Company, but he and his brother retained the Ford stock they had since 1903. Their connection with Ford was extremely profitable. Through 1914, they collected $3.8 million in dividends from their stock and earned another $1.7 million in profits on the Ford contracts. When Ford sharply reduced dividends to the stockholders In 1916, the Dodges brought a suit which eventually forced him to pay a dividend of slightly over $19 million in early 1918, with ten percent of this going to them. In July 1919, Ford bought out the remaining stockholders in the Ford Motor Company and the Dodge brothers accepted $25 million for their ten percent interest in the firm. When they finally severed their relationship with Ford, they had earned $5,4 million in dividends and $1.7 million in profits, which combined with the sale of the stock produced a return of about $32 million on their 1903. investment of $10,000. Ford provided them with both the reason and the means to build the plant in Hamtramck." LINK

As far as what would they think, not much since their hires sold their company five years after Horace's death in 1920.
Don
When Walter P. Chrysler bought Dodge in 1928, he rescued a failing business which was barely meeting its payrolls.
Now fast forward and it's interesting (actually sad) how Bloomberg (or whatever his name is who is in charge of RAM today) want's RAM trucks to distant themselves as far away from Dodge as possible.- Perrysburg_DodgExplorer

Don - dshelleyExplorerThe more I look at this, the more I think Dodge, or Ram, or whatever you want to call it, is looking to capture some of the profitable bling market. That market now enjoyed almost exclusively by GM with the Escalade and Ford with their Navigator. No RAM/Dodge large SUV, so next best thing is to bling out their best selling vehicle, the ever more popular RAM truck. This thing, although not perhaps desired by us rural campground bound folks, might sell quite well.
- maxwell11Explorerif they would assure me, it would run as well and get as good of fuel mileage as my old RAM diesel 2500, 2005 model, I would trade for one.
however, I was never into pretty, just start, run, pull and stop when needed, was all I ever ask of a truck. - AtleeExplorer IIThe current Dodge ad is very misleading. Listening to it, one would get the impression the Dodge brothers were on the Ford payroll and then quit to form their own company.

Don't forget that Henry Ford also designed the fist Cadillac he quit when they didn't want to update and formed his own car company. It will always be a Dodge truck to me, I guess the Ram name is better then Fiat on the truck.Perrysburg Dodgeboy wrote:
Wow!!!! Talk about "angst" look it up and every Ford Super Duty owner will have their picture listed! So lets get this straight, if you own a Ford (the McDonald's of trucks) your opinion is the only thing that matters??? OK good to know!
Sorry but how long has Ford had the same look? What truck company changed how trucks look? (Hint it wasn't Ford) For the ssslllooowww kids, it's Ram Trucks not Dodge, but that's OK goes with the memory and why Ford has to stamp it all over their trucks.
I like the front end of the Ram Limited, the tailgate needs to get toned down IMO but we will see how it sells.
Don
:) Hi, You're so much fun. :B Ford is proud of their name and never had to change it. Henry Ford is proud of his trucks, but what would the Dodge Brothers think about dropping their name from the Viper and Pick up trucks? I'm so happy that you went to work for Chrysler, they need all the help they can get. :W
Shouldn't you also change your name to "Perrysburg Ramboy"?

What part of I agree that the tailgate badge is redonkulous are you having a problem with Troy? As for the grill I don't think it looks bad at all. First time I looked at it was like I don't know, but after seeing it a few times it grow on me. Kind of like how most people feel when they see a new design.
BTW your the very last guy that should ever call anyone a hater Troy!

And another Ford hater breaks silence.... Take a deep breath and control the angst! :W
Take the blindfolds off and read what the majority of loyal RAM owners are saying about the new design. It's not good Don!
BTW... Funny how Ford always comes up when discussing RAM products. I suppose when your a leader everyone wants' to take a shot at you. :B
