The first one was just a insert for a topper. Then in 77 we bought a 3/4 ton and got a proper cab over. Don't remember the brand, it was old and used, had a ice box and a hand powered pump for the sink. The holding tank was a bucket to drain the sink into.
Your reference to being seated while cooking struck a note. That's the area we referred to as the hallway.
Our last TC was a one trip wonder. Owned it for 9 months, traveled over 13,000 miles and slept in it about 60 nigts. A Sun-Lite Condor popup that we named "Nabisco", our cracker box. The perfect camper for our Alaska trip. It only took us a couple of days to get used to passing in the hallway.
