Wheel Alignment?

I have a single axle TT ... does wheel alignment matter?

My trailer has a torsion type axle and I have measured from the hubs to the hitch coupler on both sides and they are the same at least as close as I can measure.

As far as I can tell, camber might be an issue but I don't see any way to adjust for camber.

I do have abnormal tire wear. The inside edge of the driver's side tire is wearing faster than the inside edge and faster than the passenger side tires. It could be just the cheap Chinese maypops but before I put new tires on I'd like to make sure everything else is right.

Thanks

That's how they used to align the old twin I-Beams Ford used on their trucks! There are probably not a lot of guys who know how to do it unless they have been around a while
  • I think there a product out there called Correct Track by mobileoutfitters.com I think, that deals with allignment issues.
I was looking at this item as a way to insure correct allignment and therefore saving on tire wear along with all other aspects of a misaligned axle that could ultimately cause damage to the rig costing hundreds of dollars.

also how does one bend an axle tube to get correct allignment, and about how long would it last.
  • I just did some research regarding my single axle boat trailer with 3500K axle. Mine would need to be bent to align it and my outside passnger tire is wearing.

Anyhow it was recommended to be to just replace the axle with a heavier axle than spend the money to fix this one.

  • Thinking more...I would look very close at my wheel bearings and torsion rubber. If your adjustment nut is loose, or torsion rubber worn, it would affect camber. Some torsion axles have camber "factory set."
  • I would have it checked by a trailer shop. Your camber is adjustable (via shims).
