Wheel covers for outdoor storage in winter snow

I am looking for some opinions from those of you that have had your trailers for a while and store them outside in the snowy winter months.
I have seen wheel covers for sale at places like camping world; but have never fully understood their purpose. I am assuming they provide some kind of protective function.
  • mainly for protection from the uv rays from hot sun to help keep tire from getting weather checked and dry rot not really needed for the snow
  • We will still put them on. UV rays are still there in the winter. I have the same concern as a TT cover...moisture underneath. How would the covers affect tires with moisture, dumb question but if I don't ask I won't know.
  • Moisture would be my main concern as well. Could lead to rusted brake discs, frozen (rusted) calipers and other brake parts. I do not cover during winter months.
  • They're open in the back so moisture shouldn't be an issue. I keep them on my tires at all times except when using the trailer.
  • Rubber has a birth date and a life according to Avaition experts. Tires only last so long and they rot period. I hvae coverd them and left them uncovered. I lived in the desert and tires lasted 10-15 years, same as in VA and I think covers are a waste of money. What I understand is heat is the problem so if it's hot, its hot under the cover as well.
  • I think covers are a good idea. I don't know how Eldlr got so lucky to have tires that lasted 10-15 years. nobody else seems to be that lucky. I know I never had a tire last that long.

Wrong member. I cover mine. And 303 them. UV is as bad for tires as it is for skin.

With covers on even though they are open in the back snow swirls up and fills the space between the cover and the wheel, packs around the calipers etc and then freezes and thaws throughout the winter resulting in rust. When they are uncovered the snow blows through.
