Ignore the oil life marketing ploy. If you follow it say 10k mile oil changes, it could be detrimental to the life of the engine. Sure it may go 100k miles, but at that point it is out of warranty so the manuf doesn't care after that. I've seen a few GM motors sludged up because the owner followed the OLM and went upwards of 12k miles between oil changes. On my excursion I go 4-4500 miles between oil changes and I'm using Mobil1.
I'm a tech and I've seen plenty of failures due to lack of proper maint.
Do what you want, but I wouldn't go over 5k miles between oil changes!
