I happen to believe the oil today is far superior to the oil of yesteryear. I also think the engines run cleaner internally due to computer management and better overall design. Add it together and I take my chances with longer oil change intervals than used to be the norm. No guarantees, but so far so good for me.
There are guys over at bobistheoilguy.com running 10,000 mile oil changes with UOAs.
As a matter of fact-with my son's Camry that is what Toyota recommends with synthetic motor oil.
