I'm an OLM adherent, except I do like to change the oil early on a new engine. (1000 miles or so)
FWIW, 180K on the wife's Impala following the OLM down to 5% and the sky hasn't fallen yet. Still goes through a pint of oil between changes that often run 8-9000 miles. Sounds and feels like new, and gets the same fuel mileage as new.
No OLM on my Excursion V10, but had the oil tested after a 7500 mile oil change. Lab said it was good to go for more.
Of course it depends on how it's driven, in my case it's very little city driving and the majority of the time trips of 25 miles or more.
Never had any internal engine issues (knock knock knock on wood) in the million miles or so I have put on various vehicles I have owned over the years. Small sample in the grand scheme of things, but it's what I have to work with.
Thanks for your post. You are proof that the OLMs work as they are designed to do, and changing oil any earlier is a waste of time and money.
