- rbpruExplorer III am with the group that will drain the water heater and fresh water tank if the TT is going to set for a month or more (very rare). I have never drained the water lines, except in the winter when I winterize.
- jfkmkExplorerI drain the water heater and FW tank (if used) after each trip. Its an unattended and easy to do process.
- AtleeExplorer IIBeginning with my new trailer, I will drain the fresh water after 2 weeks.
I've also made a decision to use the on board fresh water, even when at a FHU campsite, at least to the extent of using all the fresh water up. then I'll switch over to city water, and will add water to the fresh water tanks just before leaving the campground.
This way I can always keep relatively fresh water in my tanks. - K_CharlesExplorerWe drain only if we winterize. We use water from whoever we are when we need it and most always have a full tank when we travel. Did the same when we had ITs.
- turbojimmyExplorerI drain everything as soon as I get home. Hot water tank, fresh water, open up the low-point drains and leave all of the faucets open.
- ClarryhillExplorerIf it's going to be a couple weeks or more, I will drain them all (Lines, heater and balance of fresh water tank).
- midnightsadieExplorer IIdrain heater every trip mine heater is 9yrs old and no problem.I.m on well water but on any water I think it prolongs the life of the system.
- I drain the water heater after every trip. I drain the lines once a year when I winterize.

I let mine go too long once. And the water stunk when I hooked it up on a subsequent trip. So now I drain it after every trip when I use either city or RV water.
Same thing happened here. And it wasn't the easiest smell to get rid of. Lasted a few trips till i finally bleached the entire system. Now i pull the plug as soon as i get home. Every trip even if i am leaving in a few days.
