I have been given a older Ledger travel trailer that was abandoned on my brother-in-law's property. I do not have a title so I have to go through the legal system to gain legal ownership of the trailer. It is approx 42 ft from bumper to hitch ball. ( I stepped it off at 14, 3ft steps) The trailer has 3 axles with 2 pull outs, 1 in the living room and 1 in the master bed room. The inside and outside are in pretty good shape. The trailer needs a little work inside and out but since it was given to me I can afford to spend a little money on it and have a nice trailer with very little money invested. I cannot find the Vin number on the trailer and I need that to start the process to obtain legal ownership of the trailer. Can anyone give me some ideas as to maybe what year it is, how long it actually is and where I can find info on this trailer. This is my first travel trailer and I am new to this forum. Thanks for your help. How do I post photos of this trailer to help in identification.

Never heard of the brand, and you don't say what State you're in. Rules are different from one place to another! Generally, and if you're trying to get it on the road, my advice is to go to your local DMV and ask about how to Title abandoned vehicles. Most States have a process for that.

At that size and age, it may not have a VIN? Many house trailers, later to be called mobile himes, were not treated as vehicles in some states. Equipment differences are ofter a clue, house trailers were towable but not equipped for use while travelling.

Check on, under, around the tongue for any numbers stamped in metal.Also look for any info sheets on back of cabinet doors, closets, inside drawers.(Shot in the dark BUT they may still exist)Made by American Travel Systems (1989-2000)1990 was first year they had a 3 axle model. I am in Oklahoma. I am familiar with the process for our state to register abandoned vehicles and travel trailers that is why in need a vin number. It was last registered in our state as a TT in 2000. I do not know if the State will have records on it from that far back. I am going to check with them and see if they still have records. It is definitely a travel trailer. It is not a mobile home. Ledger was made by the American Travel Systems located in Indiana. The company is out of business and that is probably why I can't find much on this TT. If you could tell me how to post photos to this thread I will post them and you would see it is in fact a TT and maybe that will help someone in the identification and information on this trailer. I know it is long but it has all the features and options found in older travel trailers to include slide outs and an awning. I suspect it would be classed as a 39 or 40 ft TT.

Tatest. This is TT is located up in your part of Oklahoma. It is around the Lake Tenkiller area. It was left on some land that was sold to my brother in law. He does not want it on his land and said I could have it if I move it off his land. I will move it and get a title to it eventually.

Another place to look for a VIN is under the entrance door sill(s).....

Tennesseegirl I will be pulling it with a 1 ton 4X4 GMC deisel pickup. I do not plan on pulling it cross country or thousands of miles. Probably I will pull it a couple of hundred miles to a lake, set it up and stay for a week or so. We may buy a lake lot and set it up there as a lake house. From what I can tell from the info I have found, the tung weight ranges from 6200 to 7800 empty. That is heavy but not too much for a 1 ton. I see longer and heavier trailers going down the highway all the time without any problems. The key is matching the pulling vehicle with the weight of the trailer you are pulling. Having grown up in a truck driving family and being a truck driver myself, in the past I understand weight and correct distribution of axel weight for smooth controlled pulling.

What kind of tow vehicle do you have, and do you plan on putting it somewhere and leaving it or do you plan on travelling in it?

At that length it will be heavy.

Thanks Westend I will go to that thread and read it. RoyB I will download the photo app you told me about. Thanks for the info on older trailers. I am sure I will mainly use it at state parks and other places like that. With it being 40 ft long I am not sure i would want to pull it very far. I do not see a trip across the US pulling that trailer in my future. I will probably buy a lake lot and set it there to stay in. Whichita Mountains is a beautiful place and a trip down there sounds like a trip I will take. I think I have narrowed the year of my trailer to be a 96, 97 or 98. I went by my friends tag agency and she gave me some useful information. I am starting to narrow my search with all the help provided on this post.

ALso not to rain on your parade but alot of the so called "woopee do" Rv places here on the East side of the US are starting to have a 10-year Old law in place for letting older looking trailers on their camp grounds. Starting to see information about this 10-year old trailer thing on posts now...

I'm sure you won't have any problems getting on Wichita Mtns WildLife Refuge near Medicine Park. One of my favorite places to go when we lived in the Wichita Falls North Texas area back in the 60's-70's... Just something to think about before dumping alot of monies into your project.

Your picture has to have a public address starting with HTTP

I use IMGUR here to assign a public address for the pictures. Its free to download...

You can upload almost any picture format into IMGUR and it will assign a public address for it...

If you go to the "Technical Support" section of this Forum, there will be a thread about "How to Post Pictures". You can't post any pictures directly from your computer. You will need to upload them, first, to a photo hosting website like Flicker or Photobucket.

Old-Biscut. I just saw the info you posted with the year info and link for additional info. Thanks. I at least know it is a 1996 or newer. I am hoping to narrow it down to the exact year. If someone can tell me how to post the other photos I have of it I will add them. The only info I can find about adding photos say they have to already be posted to the web for public use. Cannot figure out how to add ahem from my computer

The VIN number should be stamped on the front A frame. It should be on top. Should be about 3/8 inch letters and numbers.
The liscense plate should be sufficient.
