Fair enough, but when I said my blue ox was "clean" I was referring to the fact the bars do not need to be greased, so they are clean of that. I slip a cover over the head of ball so it's effectively clean. The trunnions on the head can be kept clean where they pivot by wiping them with a paper towel after using the grease gun on the zerk fittings.
So to make it really clean of like road grime would just require a quick wipe with a damp wad of paper towels. At that point it can sit in the pass thru compartment and not get anything else greasy or dirty. - HannibalExplorerBars and head are kept lubed when in use, wiped clean when not in use and are stored in the front pass through storage.
- beemerphile1ExplorerOur hitch head goes in an old cooler that happened to be the right size. The bars just lay loose.
- Jayco254ExplorerI just store every thing in the right hand side of the pass through, that is now divided into separate compartments on both sides of the trailer. Every thing now has it's own place.

I bought an inexpensive rifle case for my WD bars.
Years ago when we bought our first hybrid that required using WD I too stored my spring bars & friction sway bar in an inexpensive rifle case. Worked fine but in order to prevent grease from getting all over the case I wrapped the bar ends in Reflectix.
Looking back, it was an unnecessary make work project and these days I just toss the spring bars in the trailer's front pass through storage compartment - no reason not to. Can't imagine now why anyone would waste $$ on a "storage bag". - BobboExplorer III

There you go. If you quote this message, you can see what I did differently. - rbpruExplorer IIMy hitch is hardly clean; ignoring the ball grease under the ball cover, the road grime and surface rust, our Blue Ox bar sockets are greased and attract dirt. The bars also pick up their share of road grime.
While I once used a tote a box or other container, it was just one more piece of junk to work around in the pass through compartment.
Our pass though carries the lawn chairs and assorted totes boxes for tire changing tools, electrical and extension cords, water hoses, sewer line connectors and the ground carpet etc, all of which pick up dirt, leaf duffle and other grime. So setting a hitch bar on each side of the pass through and the hitch just inside the cover was the simplest approach for use and storage. - APTExplorerWhen not camping, I put the hitch head and WD bars right inside the main living space door. It's the first thing I need when picking up at our storage site and last thing when dropping off. When set up at a campsite, I put the same parts in an outside storage compartment after starting to unload.
- kcfisselExplorerI bought an inexpensive rifle case for my WD bars. The hitch just goes in the garage or on my truck.
- _1nobbyExplorerOK...I obviously did something wrong. I'll post the pics when I get home.
EDIT: Fixed it!
