Honestly wind resistance does matter as my rig is 101" wide and 13' 5" tall. But weight is a biggie as the grade increases.
For sure they both limiting factors. What I'm getting at tho, I've towed an 8,000 pound open trailer with a tractor on it and towed easier than a 6,000 travel trailer. Too many of these tests, they just put weight on an open trailer and there much less wind resistance than a fifth wheel or travel trailer. At lower speeds of course weight is more of a factor. But at 60, wind resistance seems to be the bigger factor.
Agree 100%. I tow the "Ike" several times per year. My 2012 CTD will not maintain the speed limit towing my 12,000 pound 5er. Actually I end up around 40 MPH at the top. Buddy with a 13 Powerstroke pulling a very similar trailer is the same way. - 2001400exExplorer

Uhhh, who gives a schitt.
I just watched my first Ike towing video ever. Kinda under whelming. Guys wouldn't stfu....anyway, both trucks were identical up the hill straight across tie I think.
Makes sense, litle bigger truck, 10% more tq, little smaller truck little less tq. And they both hammered up the hill at the same speed.
What did I miss?
Worst part of it is I want to live THERE again!
Well with all this hype about the 10 speed trans I would have thought the GM would have performed MUCH better.
Under the test parameters....
Both trucks were pretty much able to achieve a "perfect" score (time). How can either truck do MUCH better?
I do get it, the 30-60 time to get to speed should have been quicker and there were other places that they did not maintain 60.
Waiting on the BIG pull. GM can use the 3.42's for an excuse. Ford and RAM will have 4.10's. They all are SAE rated to pull 35k.
If RAM does not get it's AZZ handed to it what will be said then???
On this test, the Chevy was a 3/4 ton and like 18,000 Max towing. I can't wait until they line up duellies from all three and drop 35k and see what happens. Hopefully using a tall fifth wheel as I find wind resistance more important than weight on drag up a mountain at 60. - Cummins12V98Explorer IIIHave NOT reached a conclusion and certainly not in a tizzy. Don’t even know what you drive. Just making observations.

YES all equal trucks towing the exact same 35k will be nice to see how they perform. RAM should be the big looser with the OLD SCHOOL trans!
I don't call most truck test a winner or loser. Just different.

The 10 speed really has you in a tizzy.
I find that amusing, as it wasn't a factor in my decision to buy a GM this time. - Grit_dogTrailblazerROFLMAO!!!

I'm pretty sure the big loser is anyone, myself included, who keeps coming back to this thread to see what the next knuckleheaded comment is ROFLMAO.
