I went through the same quandary. Ended up with the Yamaha 2400. Once I installed the start capacitor on my 13.5 AC, no problems at all. The weight to me was much more manageable than the 3000 units. It's quiet and does great on fuel consumption. All that being said, I've only used it for AC once so I probably could have gotten away with a smaller size. However for us it's also 3rd level backup gen for hurricanes and then I know I'll want AC.
For Camping thought, it's a toss up if you have a 13.5 unit weather you go 2 2000's or larger 2400. Again the weight of the 3000 was just too much.
