IMHO...driven by the fashion statement crowd...who are now into pickups/SUVs/etc...now
they cost as much as many luxury sedans...
Pickups used to be the lowest cost vehicle you could purchase, but that was
back when a teen...AKA 1960's
Mainly for folks who used their pickups/SUVs for work and/or getting there
with cargo...not just a drive to the beach or park for a picnic...
Uncle Bill taught that kind of stuff to me...he owned a custom SS kitchen
sheetmetal shop. Commerical and Industrial kitchens all over the
West Coast
A Pontiac guy, so GMC pickups
All '3/4 ton'....as they had the same RGAWR as the 1 ton and was a bit less
in cost
Stripper models...as they still had the same GVWR/RGAWR as the full optioned
So the highest payload rating...he also 'kinda sorta' believed
in the OEM ratings system and would over load often...knowing
shortened their life...but he had me to fix'm...:B
Not AC, manual, no radio, hand crank windows....etc...fiber board door panels,
sheetmetal floors with a rubber matt he took out of the one he traded in...etc...
