yes old, the valve will close but the igniter will still try to ignite the burner for some time before it too will shut down, that is fact not fiction. that is what burned down one station here in my town. I learned from this guys mistake and I have always told others to not travel with their furnace or frig turned on, if you want to take the chance, do so at your own risk
