Actually I've noticed our LDT trucks are getting much bigger/heavier which goes along with higher load carrying caps and higher tow ratings.
I towed commercially back in the '70s/'80s with several one ton DRW trucks with RAWR in the 6500-7000 lb range vs todays 9700-9800 RAWR. Those old trucks weighed around 6500-7500 lbs depending on size of the cab/4x4/etc. Now its 9000 lbs or so with some DRWs.
Same can be said for our 1/2 ton trucks. Our older 1/2 tons had 5xxx/6xxx GVWR with 3200-3500 RAWRs and weighed around 3800-4200 lbs all depending.
Todays 1/2 ton trucks can have 8600 GVWR with 6k axle ratings and weigh over 5k-6k lbs.
