I'm betting your relatives all drive Mercedes and BMWs too. European cars are not "more advanced". Just different. Half of its marketing, half of it is govt. regulations. Driving in Europe is far more expensive than it is here. Even owning what we consider as an inexpensive econobox is not something just anyone can do. So its reasonable that if they are already going through that expense and effort they demand higher quality. In NA, as whole people buy based on price more than any other single factor. Hence all the plastic on our cars to keep costs down.
