I think 'charged is onto something.
When I bought my 2002 7.3L F250 back in 2007, I did so with zero hesitation; I had always been a diesel fan and couldn't wait to own one.
Fast-forward a few years to 2012 when I was truck shopping again-- I still love diesel but just wasn't willing to risk, on my budget, the possiblity of multi-thousand-dollar repairs that could be necessary with newer but out-of-warranty diesels.
Summing up, I'm the perfect example of what supercharged is referring to-- a consumer who'd love to still be driving a diesel pickup but isn't willing to do so out-of-warranty due to the potential for account-busting repairs.
Would love to drive a new one, under warranty, but my highly under-compensating job in healthcare and 2 young sons at home takes care of that notion LOL!
