I dont believe for a moment that you will see it downsize. I think we will see engines downsized, smaller displacement with just as much power. Only a more efficient burn of the fuel. But a 1/4 or 1/2 ton rated cargo will never do the job of a 3/4 or 1 ton vehicle safely.
I think those that buy a 3/4 or 1 ton for the sake of having one are numbered. I think those with need will continue to buy. I think large gas motors days are numbered and you will see more and more complex direct injection and turbo charged systems. All of which start getting into the cost of a diesel when it comes time for repair.
