While has been reports of failed turbos, there's worse thing to happen. Go to the Ford Forums to find the reliability pros and cons of both engines.
I've driven both 3.55 and my 3.73 5.0L trucks and there's little difference in normal driving. A gas engine is meant to rev and the 5.0L revs very smoothly and quietly, compared to the 5.4L 3V I had in the 2010. I don't find the 5.0L harsh or annoying at all but I do find lag and unresponsiveness very annoying.
Just go drive both and compare.
