Well, at least a couple of people addressed the question asked by the OP. Since the OP asked about experience with the 5.0, not the Ecoboost, I will add one. I don't own one, but a very good friend owns a pest control company and he owns two F150's with the 5.0. Both are 2011 models, 2WD, regular cab with 8 ft bed. These trucks run around in Houston city traffic all day long, and they are loaded down over the max payload rating (yes, he has weighed both trucks a few times to confirm). He is a small business owner and he really depends on his trucks, and he absolutely loves the 5.0 Ford V8. He recently told me he will get the 5.0 again when the time comes to replace these (if Ford decides to keep making V8's). Sorry, no towing experience to report, though.
I think the 5.0 is an excellent choice. And, they sound a lot better than the Ecoboost (natural V8 sound; no piped-in sound needed).
