Nice comparison on 1st through 4th gears. What happened to 5th and 6th?
At any rpm the 5.o L can't make as much HP or torque as the 3.5 does at around 2000 RPM.
I prefer to tow at 2000 rather than 5000. These engines do tow like a diesel. Great torque.
As for people complaining about turbo lag, if you are pulling 5000lbs or more, the turbos don't have to spool up, they already are.
In a drag race you might notice a 1/2 second delay, but when I'm towing, it's not a drag race.
Without towing with the Ecoboost, I can't say for sure, but would think that the turbos would be spooled up producing full low rpm torque. BUT when in normal driving and not loaded, they do not. Pickup trucks.com found the same thing with a dyno showing that affect. Only after getting a different dyno, loading it up and 'tuning' it for the Ecoboost were they able to get 'close' to the low rpm peak output, what Ford did with their Flywheel dyno.
In everyday driving, since my truck is a daily driver/commuter, I found it's power characteristic more in line with what I need, when not loaded.
There haven't been many failures on the Ecoboost other than people who use 'tuners' and blow their turbos. The condensation problems seem to be fixed and why most likely the new 2014 power output seems lower compared to the 2011 - 2013 models (probably due to more restrictive intercooler cooling and programming changes). Sure peak outputs are the same though to maintain rating.
The 3.5L is a good motor but why when the 5.0L tows so well and is a better daily driver (IMO)?? Tow mirrors can be added separately and the HD payload package is optional on the 5.0L.
Both engines have their pluses and minuses. I like the 5.0L better overall and if I were to buy another today, it's would be another 5.0L.
