So apples to apples pickup vs SUV, towing, handling, power, components are essentially the same. Generally pickups rides little stiffer in the rear and handle a load better, but for towing a smallish TT there is absolutely no reason it won't tow as well with a comparable SUV.
What the OP needs to remember is there are about, oh, a LOT of old guys on this board that are well, ummm, set in their ways and somehow are able to very accurately convey the purported doom and gloom of anything that they don't personally endorse.
Picture 20 years ago, or even today, all the old guys sitting around the cafe table drinkin coffee bitsching about how everything in the world has gone to he!!
Now apply that picture to many of the responses you receive....
