Why are Truck Campers so poorly made?

Host Campers are made in Bend Oregon .
I have known the principals of the business since 1977 .
This is a second generation of RV builders .
Their dads were/are friends and they started Beaver Coaches in the 1960's .
The sons are now in their middle 50's .
They grew up working the assembly line at Beaver Motorhomes .
They now are hands-on builders of the Host campers .
Neither of the principals lives in a mansion .
Host makes a quality product and these guys make an attempt to build extra useful features into their campers and be innovative .
They have struggled to keep the doors open for the last 8 years or so .
My point is that these guys sell an expensive camper .
They have decades of hands-on experience .
They know how to be efficient at building RV's.
They live in ordinary houses and drive ordinary pickups.
They are not " cutting a fat hog " .
My observation is that it is expensive to build pickup campers .
