Why are Truck Campers so poorly made?

The cynical side of me believes mfg don't make quality products on purpose to keep themselves in business. I know it happens in other industries. But thats another discussion and based only on pure speculation.
My issue is simply the matter of quality control and poor workmanship for the price you pay for these. I'm talking on a brand new camper not something 10-15 years old that suffers from wear and tear. Maintenance I can handle. Poor workmanship I can't.
And its not just my camper. As i mentioned, mine was the best of about half dozen that i looked at. I think mfg need to raise their standards, but we as a community also need to be more discerning.
