Why are Truck Campers so poorly made?

I don't know how much $$$ the manufacturers make, But I do know its hard to run a small Business because we have a Convenient store here in Okla, And the wife is a Forensic Accountant. So I know all about number crunching and taxes and Overhead, Its a nightmare for sure. I don't envy them for a second. Well its been nice reading all the posts this morning, Happy Camping Folks.

Airstreams are nice trailers, but they have had frame problems on certain models for years. Airstream has always used the "shell" as part of the structure. Once the floor starts rotting the shell is no longer attached to the lightweight frame and serious problems occur. The Cayo family, who started Avion figured that out in the mid 1950s and corrected that issue. Airstreams aren't cheap, but for a little more money they could build heavy frames and a much more structurally sound trailer. When they started, trailers weren't as heavy as they are now, but they never upgraded the engineering concept of their trailers. Airstream does use the nice "aircraft" aluminum construction methods which last a very long time.
If it were up to me I would like an Airstream constructed camper from above the "wings" and a Livin Lite bottom. I would buy one of those in a heartbeat, especially if it was empty where I could finish it the way I want it.
