Wagonqueen Truckster, I too had a 1972 Amerigo I intended to restore. It was given to me, fully intact but required a total gut job to restore.

I gutted the Amerigo, then stumbled upon a 1988 11.5 1500 series Bigfoot for $1000. The Bigfoot was like new inside, with moss growing on the outside (no photos). I dropped the Amerigo project.
I have since performed all of the upgrades I want in the Bigfoot, including Solar, A/C, and the Honda 2000. I have done a very long list of upgrades. Materials and parts about $10,000 with no hired labor.
