Same for trucks, "because". That said does it really make that much difference how people refer to the various truck grades?
I'll say this, referring to 1/2 ton, 3/4 ton, 1 ton, is far easier to keep track of than model numbers and the myriad of options available.
It actually is not harder to keep track. It is the same trucks, but with correct terminology.
As I posted earlier.
Class 1: 0-6,000 GVWR.......Tacoma, Colorado, Canyon, Frontier
Class 2A: 6,001-8,500 GVWR.....F150, Ram 1500, Chevy/GMC 1500, Tundra, Titan
Class 2B: 8,501-10,000 GVWR.....F250, Ram 2500, Chevy/GMC 2500, Titan XD
Class 3: 10,001-14,000 GVWR.....F350, F450(pickup), Ram 3500, Chevy/GMC 3500

Class 1 is what most call a midsize or compact truck with payloads getting to 3/4 of a ton.
Class 2A is what you call a "1/2 ton" even though payloads get to over 1 ton.
Class 2B is what you call a "3/4 ton" even though payloads get to over 1.5 tons.
Class 3 is what you call a "1 ton" even though payloads get to over 2 tons in SRW and over 3 tons in DRW.
