- TomG2ExplorerAnd some people question why I buy a new truck every three or four years. They keep making them better, as your photos show.
- jerem0621Explorer III love the truck Mitch! Congrats!
Now you know that someone is going to post. "But that F250 had full floating axles."
When I first started on this forum I had a 1997 F150 much like yours except mine was 2 WD. I thought it was the coolest thing that somebody else had the same truck ad me and was towing a trailer roughly the same size. It was kind of fun watching all the heavy duty guys tell us we couldn't do what we were doing. Yet those old trucks just kept motoring on!
I mean, the gall of somebody towing a truck and trailer with in the trailer tow rating and with and the trucks axle ratingsā¦ Absurd right!
Enjoy the new truck! I know when it comes time for me to Buy ours I'm going to really enjoy it!
Thanks, Jeremiah - uterepExplorerWow ..great truck ...you can't beat the F150 ...and great mileage with the Ecoboost
- MitchF150Explorer IIIThanks Jeremiah,
Yes, I'm going to miss that old 97 for sure.. 255,000 miles on it when I traded it and it was still running fine!
If there was any way I could have kept it I would have! I didn't want to keep it parked on the street, so I had to give it up..
Dad still has his 71, but he's been able to store it inside for the last 15 years, so it's still in pretty good and running shape!
Good luck in your search! (I saw your post on wanting one with the 3.7 in it) I saw a few with the 3.7 when I was looking, but no CrewCabs.. They were all SuperCabs. All the CrewCabs I saw either had the 5.0 or the Ego in 'em.
Mitch - fla-gypsyExplorerNice choice. Enjoy it Mitch.
- W_E_BGoodExplorerOh my GOSH, but you've "only" got P-rated tires! You're going to be uncontrollable and crash'n burn! :E
(Kidding!)...Nice rig! :) - SteeljagExplorerNice truck.....good choice!

This is the door jamb stickers for the new F150... My Dad's 1971 F250 only has a GVWR of #6900! How's that for changing times! :)
Mitch
No doubt a nice looking truck, a few more pictures would be nice, but wow, looking at your door sticker 7,700# GVWR, FGAWR 3,750, and RGAWR 4,050 total axle rating 7,800# or a GVWR that is 98.7% of total axle. Unless you have a V8 in that thing you will exceed the rear axle rating before getting to the GVWR.
Interesting, you likely can't get to GVWR without overloading the rear axle, I can be well over GVWR and still have close to 1,000 available on the rear axle.
Not slamming a very nice truck, just WOW, that Ford you put you in a situation like that. - blt2skiModeratorActually, having the axel ratings being within 98% is getting closer to perfection. GVWR IMHO "SHOULD BE" 100% of the axel ratings. It is up to the end user to know how to balance the rig out for max payload etc. My MDT is rated that way! Then again, the OP will probably have an 8K license, he will be legal to 8K. UNLESS, 1.5 times his tare is over 8K lbs, then he will have a 10K plate, and be legal to 10k too.......
anyway, enough my my supposed legal begal nonsensacle talk. Enjoy the new twuck Mitch!
marty - jerem0621Explorer IIAnother interesting fact is that the tires are rated for 2409lbs per tire, so the RAWR of 4050 lbs is 768 lbs below the tire ratings. Looks like Ford is putting firm backing behind the axle ratings by putting them so close to the GVWR.
Great observation Russ...
thanks!
Jeremiah
