- LimogesManExplorerCongrats Mitch. Mine is 12 years old and still love it. The new trucks are very attractive but I stay off the dealer lots!
The sad thing when keeping your truck that long is that you only have a few more to buy before you get too old to drive. - mtofell1ExplorerThe capability of that truck while keeping only 35psi in the tires is amazing. What a nice combination of towing ability and a soft ride. I love my 2500 but dang is it ever bumpy!!
I'm pretty sure my next truck is going to be something similar to the OP. The way the engines are getting powerful, the MPGS better and the weight ratings higher is outstanding. Great truck - congratulations and enjoy! - MitchF150Explorer IIII think the spare being an 18" LT is also because it needs to have close to the same load rating as the 20"? The 20's have a load rating of #2400 per tire @ 44 PSI. I know the placard says they are supposed to be @ 35 PSI, which is where they are now.
The tires are Bridgestone Dueller H/T, and are M+S rated, but they really look like a hwy tire more than anything.. At least compared to the A/T tires I had on the old F150..

So why did Ford put in an LT tire for the spare? No biggie, just seems odd to have the mismatch.
It is amazing how the GVWRs are advancing- my truck has a 9900-lb GVWR, and an F-250 of that year was 8800. New F-250s are north of 10,000.
Edit: Forgot to say, congrats on the new truck! The new trucks sure look nice; I keep Ford's build-and-price website busy!
Easy, they wanted to use a cheaper rim (18"). They don't make steelies in 20" rims. Also, the stock size is a 275/55R20 which is a 32" tall tire. So they needed an 18" wheel-tire combo that is 32" tall. All the tires that have similar width and height are LT tires (spare on my F-150 was 275/65R18). Hence why you have an LT spare. - tragusa3ExplorerI've got the same setup in a CC with a 1770 payload. Our old truck had a GVWR of 6200 vs. our new 7700.
In two months, we're at 2000 miles. Average mpg's for the last 1,000 miles is 17.2 on 2 lane country roads. That's better than the first 1,000. I've also noted that on warmer days it goes up by 1-2 mpg.
I just went out and checked my spare and it is a matching P rated.
We're doing a shakedown trip tomorrow. A local one nighter, but I'll get the chance to two some 4 lane and some stiff grades. It was hard to wait, so I know how you feel. - CEddyExplorer

BUT, I'm the System Admin for a CPA firm and needless to say, it's TAX SEASON until after April 15th.. :(
But, that does not mean I'll not hook it up before May... Thinking about it now, I'll want to do a little shake down run with it before we have it all packed up and ready to go for that first trip.. Need to make sure all the new fangled towing package stuff works with the old trailer and all..
I think I'll plan on that sometime in April... :) (trailer is covered and I don't feel like uncovering and covering it back up again)
Actual "Camping" during this time of year... Well, we did that back when the TT was new and it was fun, but I've grown to be pretty much a "fair weather" camper now and just don't enjoy 'camping' when it's 40* outside!! I know, I'm a wuss, but I've done it before and would just rather not anymore.. :)
Thanks!
Mitch - blt2skiModeratorI agree, why wait until May. I used my old TT more from dec to April as a ski hut than I did the rest of the year.

Actually, having the axel ratings being within 98% is getting closer to perfection. GVWR IMHO "SHOULD BE" 100% of the axel ratings. It is up to the end user to know how to balance the rig out for max payload etc. My MDT is rated that way! Then again, the OP will probably have an 8K license, he will be legal to 8K. UNLESS, 1.5 times his tare is over 8K lbs, then he will have a 10K plate, and be legal to 10k too.......
anyway, enough my my supposed legal begal nonsensacle talk. Enjoy the new twuck Mitch!

Just got my new registration today and yes, I'm tagged for #8000. Scale weight is listed as #5416.
I've got over 500 miles on it now! Should have no problem with the break in miles by May.. It's just going to be hard waiting that long before I can tow with it!
Mitch
WAITING UNTIL MAY???!!!
Why are you wasting February, March, and April!!
Come on unless you are an Eastsider, there is no end to the camping season in Washington and Oregon!!
What is the break in before towing as listed in the owners manual? - MitchF150Explorer III
